Monthly Goals

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

Start reading the Book of Mormon 10 minutes a day Learn the Trek theme song: I Need Thee Every Hour (Hymn #98) Watch Face to Face with President Eyring and Elder Holland Work to memorize The Living Christ Participate in a secret act of service with your friends

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

Participate in church or school sports Walk, bike or run 1 mile three times per week

HISTORICAL PREPARATION

Obtain a bonnet (girls) or vest (boys) Read and share a pioneer story with your family for Family Home Evening Determine if one of your ancestors was a handcart pioneer and learn more about that person

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

Read the Book of Mormon for 15 minutes a day Check-out the youth site on LDS.org Visit an elderly person and ask them about their life as a youth

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

Start hydration regimen of 3-4 8oz. glasses of water a day Walk two to three miles three times per week Obtain good shoes or hiking boots (start breaking them in if they are new)

HISTORICAL PREPARATION

Find or make a dress or skirt (girls) / pants and hat (boys) Watch a pioneer movie or read a book about pioneers Read 3-5 pioneer stories on this website

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

Read the Book of Mormon for 15 minutes a day Learn the song, “As Zion’s Youth in Latter Days”, Hymn #256 Work to memorize The Living Christ Find a conference address on LDS.org that has counsel for youth Do “secret” service for someone at school Start a gratitude journal

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

Increase your hydration regimen to drinking 5–7 8oz. glasses of water per day Walk 2–3 miles two times a week and 4–6 miles two times a week with one 8 mile walk sometime in the month (Legacy trail is a good place to do the longer walk) A hike to Flag Rock would be fun Buy some good socks

HISTORICAL PREPARATION

Obtain bloomers and apron (girls) or suspenders and shirt (boys) Seek an opportunity to share a pioneer story in opening exercises at Mutual Choose a pioneer for whom you will Trek and learn more about that pioneer

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

Read the Book of Mormon for 15 minutes a day Work to memorize The Living Christ Learn the song, “True to the Faith”, Hymn #254 Find a Mormon Message about someone who has been a pioneer in their own life Participate in baptisms for the dead

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

Continue your hydration regimen of 6-8 8oz. glasses of water per day Participate in a sport Walk 2-3 miles two times a week and 4-6 miles two times a week with one 10 mile walk sometime in the month (early in the month is better as because the Temple walk is 1 June) Gather your clothing and personal supplies

HISTORICAL PREPARATION

Learn more about your chosen handcart pioneer (Pioneer Search at LDS.org) Record in your journal your feelings and thoughts as you learned more about your assigned handcart pioneer

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

Read the Book of Mormon for 15 minutes a day Add to your gratitude journal Fast and pray about attending Trek and the purpose it will have in your life Learn the song, “I’ll Go Where You Want Me To Go”, Hymn #270

PHYSICAL PREPARATION

Increase your hydration regimen to drinking 8-10 8oz. glasses of water per day Walk 2-3 miles two times a week and 4-6 miles two times a week. After the 15th of July, taper your walking down and no walking after the 23rd of July Double check you have all your clothing and personal supplies

HISTORICAL PREPARATION

Participate in a Pioneer Fashion Show.
Record in your journal your feelings about the pioneers/handcart companies and the things you have learned as you have prepared for Trek
